Sponsoring ARCA

‘Help us promote the study and research of art crime and cultural heritage protection’

Introduction

The Association for Research into Crimes against Art (ARCA) is a grassroots Civil Society Organisation that has diligently worked for the last 15 years to promote the study and research of art crime and cultural heritage protection. The Association seeks to identify emerging and under-examined trends related to art-related crimes as well as to develop strategies that advocate for the responsible stewardship of our collective artistic and archaeological heritage.

ARCA advances its mission through its professional development training programmes, its art and antiquities crime research, its publications, capacity building, and public outreach. As an interdisciplinary group, ARCA works with scholars from around the world and allied professionals in the fields of law, criminal justice, security, museum studies, art history, archeology, and cultural resource management at the local, national, and international level with the goal of fostering the exchange of knowledge and the advancement of this specialised field.

ARCA has been an independent organization since its foundation in 2008. It does not receive any subsidies and is dependent on trainee fees and sponsoring to remain sustainable and carry out the work we do. We offer several opportunities for businesses and other organisations to support ARCA’s research, our training program and or annual conference.

Annual Postgraduate-level Training Program

In its 13th year in 2023, this academically-challenging, eleven-course, 210 hour, postgraduate professional development program provides in-depth instruction in important theoretical and practical elements related to combatting art and heritage crime. By examining art crime’s interconnected world, our participants experience an integrated curriculum in a low participant-to-instructor participatory setting.

This program runs from late-May through Mid-August and is held in Amelia, a stunning small town in Italy that is older than Rome, located in the beautiful Umbrian countryside.

Annual Conference

Each year, ARCA’s annual Amelia Conference serves as a platform for exchanging ideas and advancing the mission of protecting art and heritage globally. Held over one weekend each summer, the conference focuses on art crime and the importance of detection, prevention, and response at the international and domestic level.

The conference is aimed at international organizations, enforcement agencies, scholars, cultural institutions, and art and antiquities professionals. It promotes awareness and understanding of the need for better protection of the world’s cultural heritage through open, multi-disciplinary discussions of contemporary issues.

Recognizing the growing interdisciplinary and international nature of this field, the 2023 conference will continue to explore topics of common concern through dynamic panel discussions and presentations of varying perspectives.

Sponsoring Options

ARCA has been an independent organization since its foundation in 2008. It does not receive any subsidies and is dependent on trainee fees and sponsoring to finance its organization and events. We offer several opportunities for businesses and other organizations to support our research, sponsor a participant in our training program and our annual conference.

ARCA offers three broad categories of sponsoring.

– By sponsoring one or more needs-based trainees who otherwise would not be able to attend.

 – By sponsoring all or part of the Annual Amelia Conference

 – By sponsoring ARCA’s research

 Sponsoring one or more trainees

A year round opportunity to sponsor ARCA and benefit from this as an organization, is by sponsoring one or more trainees so that they can benefit from ARCA’s specialised training.

Sponsors help ARCA ensure that individuals from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and countries can participate in this specialised program, harnessing the power of quality training and mentorship and creating opportunity today which impacts their tomorrow.

The fees for the ARCA program, including the May to August on site program in Amelia, plus the September till November capstone project under the guidance of one of ARCA’s professors, are 6,900 euro. Some sponsors cover solely tuition, others sponsor tuition plus lodging and flights.

As examples in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 our sponsors covered fees for our Middle East Minerva scholars, which are awarded to cultural heritage ministry workers in countries of conflict and post conflict. During this period, ARCA provided training for individuals from:

Aleppo, Syria

Sana’a, Yemen

Mosul, Iraq

Damascus, Syria

Nasiriyah, Iraq

Basra, Iraq

Cairo, Egypt

We have also had sponsors cover the training costs for a Canadian Law Enforcement Officer, a US State Department analyst and have a standing scholarship for military-embedded civilians working in advisory capacities on cultural heritage issues.

For each trainee sponsored, ARCA can arrange a tailor made package of benefits for the sponsor, that can include for example one or more reports about the sponsorship on our social media channels, or a longer interview on our website (if they want their sponsorship made public).  We also usually take a moment during the conference to thank our scholars sponsors publicly, (when they elect to be publicly named).
